riding helmet or motorcycle helmet?

c41d8 motorcycle helmet 6870973760 05bc4b3034 m riding helmet or motorcycle helmet?

Question by sweet young thing: riding helmet or motorcycle helmet?
would a motorcycle helmet be more effective and safe compared to an equestrian riding helmet? i have 2 elementary aged kids that will be trail riding soon. they have regular riding helmets now but if the motorcycle helmet is safer i would like to have them for trail use.
the kids NEVER NEVER NEVER ride without me being within 20 feet of them. we have very calm bonmbproof horses but they are still animals. very big unpredictable animals. if they are cleaning stalls they were their helmets just in case a horse sneeks in while they are in there. im very careful and safety is always my first objective.

I think a riding helmet is safer because for one – Its made to ride horses. I only use one occasionally. I prefer no helmet.

Question by someoneoutthere: What size of Motorcycle Helmet for a 4 year old little girl??
I want to find a Motorcycle helmet for my little girl who is 4 years old. I don’t want a Dirt Bike or Racing helmet, more like a Harley helmet. Does anyone know what size I should be looking for from personal experience?
Im not talking about going 80 mph down the freeway with her!
My husbands boss lets him take his harley on some weekends and she likes to have a little SLOW ride around the block and I would like a helmet on my little one before we take her…….OH IM A HORRIBLE MOTHER LOL!!! Put your kid in a bubble.
Thanks to everyone that has provided real answers!
I just want to clarify that safety is my number 1 priority here and that is why im asking the question. Im not looking for a cutsie helmet, I want a safe helmet.
Also, if we were to give her a ride, I wouldn’t just set her on the back and say “Dad, have at it!” lol. It would be my husband driving her in the middle and me on the end to hold her as well as her holding on to daddy.
To the person that said they don’t make kids helmets…. I know they do, because when we went camping last year I saw a couple on a ATV with a baby that had a helmet. I also thought that when BACA gives kids rides (or don’t they?) they would have kid sized helmets.
This really isn’t a BIG deal, she doesn’t have to ride, I just thought it would be fun if it was SAFE and slow and also would like one if we ever go 4 wheeling.
Thanks again for those who have helped!

4 or 5x motorcycle helmets?

Question by John: 4 or 5x motorcycle helmets?
My dad can’t fit into a 3xl helmet. Does anyone know how i can get him a 4 or 5 xl helmet?

Best answer:

Answer by Tinker
I have never seen anything larger than 2XL. Most helmets are made in two different size shells, one for the smaller (XS. Sm, md,) sized and the other (lg, xl, xxl) with increasingly thinner foam padding. You need to find some one making each helmet on its own sized bucket. And get them to make one for your dad. (Individually made is EXPENSIVE, not only do they need to mix up and apply fiberglas to a form, and then the gelcoat, but the styrofoam Insulation has to be individually cast as well.

Most companies are having the parts done in CHINA, where they can get skilled labor for less than a living wage.

Typically there is a clip under the seat where the helmet D rings can be secured. There are also frame mount locks available that do the same thing.

Question by Adf: Are all motorcycle helmet the same?
let say i buy a 40$ helmet off eBay. Will it offer the same protection as a acai that cost 700$ ?

What company helmet should I avoid? What company helmet should I buy?

Please provide link if possible, I’m on a budget.

Best answer:

Answer by Jc Mountford
No, they are not the same. Protection should meet a minimum standard, but a more expensive helmet is likely to offer more protection. You will also find them much more comfortable as they offer better ventilation. My wife and I have an HJC helmets and have been very happy with them, nice features, great price.

my boyfriend is getting a motorcycle. he refuses to wear a helmet cause he thinks it will look stupid. well i am going to get him a helmet because i don’t want him to bust his skull open. what are the safest motorcycle helmets? like are there any suggested ones? but they have to look “cool” lol

Best answer:

Answer by atvman_400
I think guys who wear helmets are cooler than guys who don’t. Why would you not want a helmet? Is he stupid? Anyway, Bell helmets are good. Look for a helmet with a Snell rating.

How tough is your Motorcycle Helmet?

Time to find out.

Question by Fencerskizzo: What happens to damaged motorcycle helmets?
I’m looking for a couple to use as the base for costume robot helmets, not for the road, and plan on cutting away quite a bit of the mass, so them being damaged is a problem. (and should make them cheaper, right?) I’d rather not have something i need to..uh, clean out, or that someone died in.

Maybe some factory defects?

Also, what’s it gonna take to slice through a helmet meant to withstand major impacts?

Answer by Agent319.007
You need a steam roller or jack hammer to do the trick.

What is a good, reasonably priced motorcycle helmet for a beginner?

Question by trickyredcoat: What is a good, reasonably priced motorcycle helmet for a beginner?
I am just starting to get into motorcycles and am going to buy a helmet soon. I want one that is DOT and Snell approved but I am unsure of the good brands in this world. Any suggestions to helmets that are good quality but won’t absolutely break the bank? Appreciate the help.

Best answer:

Answer by Mr. Smartypants
The big motorcycle magazines do an article every year or two where they buy a bunch of helmets and submit them to an independent testing lab and report on the results. What they find is that all helmets protect about the same, you pay more for features and comfort. In fact the best are often the cheapest, ABS helmets (though they’re also the heaviest).

The article always has some kind of graphic to show what percentage of impacts come from what directions, and (I guess not surprisingly) about half of the impacts come from the front. So a full-face helmet is best. A half-helmet is like locking two doors on a four-door car.

Now the next thing will get a lot of people mad at me. About 95% of accidents are falls. You don’t run into a wall or off a cliff, the bike falls over. You might be going 70 mph, so you’ll slide a ways, but the fall itself is almost always the same, a five-foot fall. The DOT helmet is designed for this intensity of impact. It’s designed for street riding. Snell helmets are designed for racing, where you have bigger impacts, so the foam in the helmet is a lot stiffer. And it may not protect even as well as a DOT helmet on the street. OTOH Snell helmets must be certified by a lab while DOT is basically on the ‘honor system’.

Question by Bob: I need advice buying a motorcycle helmet please?
I will be buying my first motorcycle (an 09 Ninja 250r) here in a couple weeks. I’m lost in trying to find a helmet to buy. I need one that is first and foremost a good quality helmet. It must be full faced and obviously DOT approved. money is also an issue obviously.

This is a new world for me so I feel very vulnerable buying something that is so important with so little knowledge. I’m a first time rider so statistically the chances are that this helmet will be used for its ultimate intended purpose in the next year. (I know that may not be true, but its what I’m telling myself.)

I guess my questions are as follows:

1. What is an acceptable amount of money to spend on a helmet?

2. Can I obtain a good quality and new helmet for $ 100 and under or should i expect to pay more for one? (I’ve been looking on amazon and finding helmets that are under $ 100 and have good reviews, but most reviews are from first time riders.

3. What are some other things I should consider when buying helmets? What are some things I may miss that you know of from experience?

4. What brands should I be looking for that are reputable? What are some brands I should be watching out for that are not reputable?

5. If you can provide links to helmets you recommend that would be awesome, but please don’t feel obligated to.

When I get up in the morning and look in the mirror, I realize everything that makes me who and what I am is contained between my two ears, so thank you in advance for helping me in this. I know this is a long question, so feel free to answer it partially.
Thank you for your answers all!

HJC is a good brand for a low cost. I have one and it is a good helmet. Also, under 100 bucks is not enough money. It will be over a 100 bucks but not over 200. try them on. it should fit snug so you grab the front and move side to side it does not move without your head moving. You want it to move your head with it. no slop.

Question by LL: Good motorcycle helmet?
I’m going shopping for a helmet to wear for Daytona bike week next week. I just feel more comfortable wearing one. But it’s probably more common that the riders don’t wear them…but I don’t care, I’m wearing one! I was looking at the beanies, but they don’t look as safe. What’s a good helmet to get? Full face, half, beanie?
I’m leaning toward an open face, with a flip shield so I can put it down for night riding.
