Question by mentalmikomi: how much would it cost to learn how to drive a motorbike?
ive just recently bought my provisional license and i want to learn to drive a motorbike but i dont know how much it would cost to have lessons so could anyone suggest where i could get lessons in cwmbran or newport, and what would i need to have when learning to drive a motorbike. best answer gets best points thankyou for your help

find a local bike shop and ask them – they will be able to point you in the right direction and possibly even pay for your training if you buy a bike from them

It shouldn’t come as a lesson to anybody that, when you look after your possessions, most of them will last longer. However, judging from the volume of motorcycle riders who neglect to look after their bikes properly, you might think that nobody had given them this piece of advice. The number of bike enthusiasts not caring for their much-loved vehicles is high and, unfortunately, these people could find themselves missing out on years of life their bike could have offered had it not been for poor care.
If you’re a novice when it comes to motorbikes, it probably makes a lot of sense that if you keep your machine well-oiled, the more smoothly it will run. That’s why vehicles have to be taken for MOTs to ensure they’re in good working condition – because not only could they break down on us, but, if such an incident happens at an inopportune moment, an accident involving both you and others could occur.
If you look after your bike, your bike will look after you. That means keeping it clean by polishing and rubbing down all of the exterior bits and pieces – especially those that could rust if left wet. One of the cardinal rules of keeping a motorbike is not to leave it uncovered in the street. Particularly in countries with changeable weather, you never know when your bike could end up getting soaked and, although the mechanics and paint job should be built to withstand this, if you consistently allow your vehicle to get wet and do not dry it off properly, you could end up with rust, leading to damaged components and clunky handling.
When riding on your motorbike, simple things like avoiding unnecessary revs, utilising your petrol reserve efficiently and avoiding riding over pot holes and similar hazards can all go towards increasing the lifespan of your motorbike. Anything that jolts your bike unnecessarily could potentially be damaging – both to the bike and to you. Finally, getting good motorbike insurance is a very important must, which can provide you and your bike with cover should you get into an accident.
You should enjoy possessing a motorbike, but there’s no need to look after it with anything but the utmost care. After all, you put your life into the hands of your motorbike handling every time you use it, so you should want to make sure that the journey is as safe as possible!

A guide to safety for first time motorbike riders
Motorbikes effortlessly scream ‘cool’. You will have admired shiny Harley Davidsons that have appeared on the big screen and also the icons who have ridden them. This admiration might only have been from afar, but you may have dabbled with the idea of riding a motorbike. Someone might even have bought you some riding lessons as a gift. Either way, you need to familiarise yourself with some of the safety basics of learning to ride a motorbike.
Why you need to take motorbike safety seriously
The high power-to-weight ratio means even a basic motorbike will out-accelerate most cars. Motorbikes don’t have all the frills that cars do. All they essentially are is an engine, two wheels, a fuel tank, handlebars and a seat, so you’re not in the same protective auto-bubble as a driver. You need road sense to judge distances and speed, as well as an awareness of your surroundings to position yourself correctly on the road.
Compulsory basic training
Riding a motorbike often has the negative connotations of being extremely dangerous on the roads, but complying with safety means there is no reason why you cannot enjoy riding without coming to harm.
Because of the increased risk, compulsory basic training (CBT) was introduced in 1990 to reduce accidents among inexperienced riders. The CBT must be completed before a moped or motorcycle learner can ride on the road (still with a learner plate) in England and Wales. The CBT involves practical on-site and road training and riding.
Making sure you are kitted out for riding motorbikes safely
Riders of motorbikes and mopeds need to take extra safety precautions when on the road, which means ensuring they have the relevant protective gear for injuries, all-weather conditions and being easily seen by other road users. Without suitable clothing, there is the potential to get very wet and cold on a motorbike.
As well as the important safety aspect, your clothing will top off that trendy biker look. Without a sleek safety helmet, you can’t be considered a biker, and you are of course, required by law to wear one on the road. You should also consider wearing visors, goggles, gloves, gauntlets, protective clothing or leathers, boots and visibility aids.
You can’t be a real biker without the edgy leather jacket. Try and wear natural materials: if you have a rough fall off your motorbike, friction from the road’s surface may cause some synthetic materials to burn or melt into any wounds – that doesn’t sound great.
Safety helmet regulations
All helmets sold in the UK must either carry the BSI kitemark or comply with UNECE regulations, or carry an equivalent to the BSI kitemark as accepted by a member of the EEA.
Helmets that have sustained a serious impact should always be replaced with a new one. This is one reason why you shouldn’t pick up helmets off ‘the back of a lorry’ or at your nearest car boot sale: a second-hand helmet could be damaged even if the evidence of impact isn’t visible to the naked eye. And remember, a helmet could save your life, so no compromises!

How to Get a Motorbike License in Australia
Being able to ride a motorcycle can be a daunting but yet extremely exciting ability. You are provided with the freedom to ride your motorcycle and experience the thrills and joys which can come from traveling the open roads on your bike; but with this comes a certain level of responsibility. As with any automobile, it is imperative that all riders are aware of the responsibility which comes from being on the roads to ensure not only the safety of themselves, but also the safety of other road users. This is why in order to be able to ride a motorcycle, it is vital you have a motorbike license.
Obtaining a motorcycle license will begin with the individual in question preparing themselves and learning how to ride a motorcycle. Within Australia, an individual must firstly apply for an R-E learner’s permit before they can begin to have motorcycle lessons, but can only do so once they have reached 16 years of age. Once you hold a full R-E class permit, you will be able to apply for an R class permit but you will be unable to complete the practical text for this until you have been in possession of your R-E license for at least 12 months.
A learner’s permit may be a small step into fully obtaining your motorcycle license, but with it the individual will be finally able to have riding lessons. A learner’s permit will allow the individual to learn with a licensed riding instructor who holds a similar or higher license than the license in which you are applying for. However, it will also enable them to learn with someone who has a current driver’s license and has held this for over 4 years, or if you are learning to ride a moped; you can also learn with someone who has held an R-N, R or C class license for over two years. During your lessons, your instructor must accompany you at all times on either another motorcycle or whilst riding in a sidecar connected to your motorcycle. In the event that you are applying for an R-E class license, you can only ride motorcycles which have an engine capacity which does not exceed 250cc, and must display your ‘L’ plates at all times.
The time in which you are ready to take your motorcycle theory test will differ with each learner, but your instructor and your own personal feelings on whether you are ready or not will help you decide when is the correct time. If you are applying for an R-E class license, you will need to sit a theory test, but this is not required when applying for an R-N or R class license. The test consists of 15 multiple choice questions which will cover a wide range of topics related to road rules when riding a motorcycle. In order to pass this test you will need to have a score of 12 or more. If you are applying for an R-E license, you may also have to sit a road rules theory test which consists of 30 multiple choice questions. In order to pass this, you will need to have a score of 24 or more.
Following the success of your theory test, you will then need to ensure you have as much practice as possible in order to be able to gain your motorcycle license. Once you and your instructor feel you are ready, you can take your practical riding assessment. This is something which you should only do when you feel completely sure that you know how to handle the motorcycle and will be able to answer any questions which may come up during your assessment. By ensuring you are prepared you will not only have a greater chance of passing and obtaining your license; but will also be much closer to enjoying the thrill of riding your own motorbike.
Once you have your license in hand you are ready to hit the open road, but make sure you are properly kitted out with a helmet, riding glasses or goggles, a sturdy jacket and clothing, and appropriate footwear.

well it make take u awhile like me 4 time but i got it i paid $ 40 bucks i want to say and u need a Class M license for a motorbike

You should also remember that the more expensive the motorcycle is, The more it could cost to be insured.
