I got a phone call from Eastpak & Jansport the other day. They had received a new shipment of bags including some limited edition versions and the guy wanted me to pass by and check them out. So, tonight I passed by with Nat and nibaq to check out the new stuff. Nibaq is still looking for a messenger bag for his new powerbook and I told him he might find something cool there. They always have some really cool stuff, so cool that I always wish I was going on a vacation or something so I could buy a good bag. Last time I travelled I had a terribly small and uncomfortable backpack and I really regret then not getting a better one. This time around when I travel I am gonna get the best backpack I can afford. The coolest thing in the showroom ofcourse is the bright yellow Ducati 1000DS motorbike, and you can have it for only KD3900!

So my friend Zan had a gallery opening at Utilikilts last night and she asked me to DJ, so I went down to drop some tracks but brought my camera along cuz…why the heck not? Anyway, at the opening she did this amazing body painting on these two…elves. When she was all done everyone was taking photos, and I asked Tim, the manager guy, if they could sit on this awesome motorcycle that they have in the store. He was like, hell yes they can…and so here they are: Hell’s Elves. (And if they’ve got elves like this in hell, y’all can meet me there!) This is, of course, an HDR photo. Since I was an idiot and lost my tripod at Burning Man I shot this handheld (kinda), lying on the floor of the store, propping up the camera with my left hand, my phone, and the lens cap. 3 images, .3, .6 and 1.3 seconds at f4. Merged to hdr and tone mapped in the new Photomatix 4 beta, tweaked in lightroom, menaced in Photoshop, further bother in Lightroom. – See more pics on my site at www.michaelholden.com

Was reviewing honeymoon shots and found this one that I liked but totally forgot to process so finally got round to it.

Peyo had a hut beside the main road near the village we were staying in. She was so friendly and everyone seemed to know her. Her hut offered a multitude of goods and services including Thai massage, motorbike hire, Coca Cola, beer, noodles, and local fruit. We stopped here one day to get some water and Peyo gave us a load of the local fruit to try. I’m not sure if it was just her generosity or whether it is Thai culture but the more fruit we finished the more she gave us, and since Gemma didn’t really like the fruit, I ended up having to eat it! Surprising, I know! We decided against hiring motorcycles because neither of us had driven one before and because Thai driving is crazy. We also didn’t get a massage because Gemma was scared of bugs on the floor and I was scared that it might be a bit more than a massage if you catch my drift. Peyo’s hut however was one of the highlights of the trip, the simplicity of the hut and the generosity of Peyo made it memorable.

I was at Coney Island for the Mermaid Day Parade and there was this guy. He seemed nice enough but I thought I’d ask before just running up to him and sticking a camera in his face.

This was before the bike building shows became popular and I finally recognized him as Indian Larry once after watching one.

Then he died because he wasn’t wearing a helmet when he crashed his motorbike.

My friend and neighbor was asked to check out this rather hideous and beat-up old motorcycle. I snapped a couple shots of it with my Auto 250 this morning, and through the magic of Polaroid chocolate film, it becomes beautiful.
