Learner-legal bikes on a budget: recommendations?
I am looking at buying a 125 as a town runabout, as my big 2L car is such a waste of fuel for in-town trips and such a pain to find/pay for parking.
I have my CBT certificate, so I am only interested in learner-legals. I want a geared bike as I want to get some practise and experience for when I take DAS in 6-9 months or so when I’ve saved up enough money.
My budget is about £1200-1500 for bike, full set of kit (except helmet, I have one) and TPFT insurance.
I don’t want a 2-stroke (e.g. Aprilia), and would rather stick with established manufacturers than Chinese copies.
I am also 5″6 tall and might find bikes with a huge seat height difficult.
I have narrowed it down to the CG125 or YBR125. The CBR125 is nice and gets great reviews, but probably too expensive (same for the Varadero 125).
Opinions on which is better? Any other models I should be looking at? How much have other members spent on similar bikes?

I agree to the DR 125 is a very good bike. might be a bit ‘slow but very reliable. but I know that if things go wrong can be costly. Its also very capable off road. the suspension is very good. like his older brother dr 400.
I suppose you are looking to buy something used as it is only looking to spend 1200-1500. Are in the U.S. so I can not say much on the quantity of each bike, but I heard nothing but praise from pilots in uk little I know about CBR125.La YZF-R125 is supposed to have more features and yet still I felt a lot of interest in the new Suzuki gsxr125. I have not heard much in the way of examination, but both look good. . . This site has more information I can give. . . You should be able to sit flat foot in any of thes bikes without many problems. Are in the United States. I am not aware of exchange rates or currencies. I bought some ‘used 2007 for a bit’ used low mileage Kawasaki Ninja 250R for $ 2,500. OO dollars in cash. I’m 5’7 “tall, with 29 inseam and sit on mostly flat feet and back with your feet and legs without problems unless you hit a hole in the lawn that I have to take something or ask for help push my way along the bike and pull the bike back over the hole. I had a Kawasaki 700 ltd £ 500 mc I sat in the leg completely flat and had many problems in supporting off his feet and legs or is not was in a hole in the grass. You can not go wrong with sexy fun fun orKAWASAKI Kawasaki Ninja ZZR-250 EX-250 A. For the 125, I would most likely, Honda CBR125.
