Question by Tom J: Best Motorbike to get at 18 years old for Motorway use?
I’m now at Uni and am thinking of getting a motorbike to use to pop home (140miles), using mostly motorways.
What bike should I get, considering that I am restricted by my age.
I would prefer a classic bike really, and nothin too expensive.

Check out the Kawasaki Vulcan 900 – has that nice classic cruiser style and engine is just right for cruising long distances…

If you are into classic British bikes (like me) check out the Triumph Bonneville – they are great looking bikes and perform very well

If the 900 is too expencive, you can look at Yamaha’s line up and try the 650 V Star Classic or Custom – they are great bikes too and very low on maintenance…

She may be able to do some studying at a local technicon, and what about approaching local body shops (we call them panel beaters), those guys who repair crashed vehicles. There she will learn the art of spray painting. The “arty” part will come from within her…

Di Blasi Folding Motorbike or Motor Scooter showing how to Break it Down – First Pit Bike Mini Bike

I bought this Di Blasi Motorbike several years ago on Ebay and have enjoyed taking it places and riding it around the yard. The bike amazingly folds to less than half its height and width. At less than 64 lbs the bike can easily be placed into any trunk. But where it shines is with the aviation community who stow the bike away behind the pilot seats. The Bike has a 50cc 2 stroke engine and can attain a speed of 30 mph. It holds 3/4 gallon of 50:1 fuel and gets 133mpg…not to bad. This model was made in 1982.

Question by sam w: What should a full service, MOT and PDI include on a motorbike/scooter?

1, Engine thermostats
2, Drivebelts/chains
3, Leaking forks/ seals

None will cover the thermostat unless you have said there is a problem with the cooling system.
Drivebelts and chains should have been checked except in the case of a scooter where the belt may be behind an engine casing.
Fork seals should be easily spotted if there is oil on the forks during service/mot/pdi but may be missed if hidden by fork gaitors as on an off road type bike.
